Queen of Hearts Costume from Alice in Wonderland

When it comes to creating a Queen of Hearts costume from Alice in Wonderland, you don't have to break the bank or be a master seamstress. With a few simple DIY projects and some creativity, you can create an adorable and recognizable Queen of Hearts costume for your little one.

To start, we used giant stencils to trace out the letter 'Q' on red poster boards. We applied more glue and then slipped a popsicle stick between the two sheets to secure it in place. This took about 10 minutes, making it a quick and easy task.

Next, we lightly applied some glue onto thin cardstock so that it wouldn't budge while cutting out the letter 'Q'. We then sketched out the signature cat smile on scrap paper and outlined it with a Sharpie to add a finishing touch.

The costume itself consists of a red dress from Value Village, which we found for about $30. The dress is simple and easy to work with, making it perfect for a DIY project. To complete the look, we added a pale blue scarf/hat thing that we also found at Value Village.

To create the iconic Queen of Hearts headpiece, we used a small soup bowl and drew out a rectangle connecting the two circles. We then attached the hands so that they would be movable using a 'brad'. The clock face and clock hands were drawn on scrap paper and traced onto thin cardstock.

The only real DIY project in this costume was the pocket watch, which we made using cardboard and some creativity. We also used rabbit ears from Easter ($ store) and a red bow tie that we made from my Hello Kitty costume.

To put it all together, we attached the poster boards to each other with twine, leaving some extra slack so that they would lay across the shoulder and the cards would hang nicely in the front and back of the body. We rounded the corners like actual playing cards using a pencil to give it a more realistic look.

In the end, our Queen of Hearts costume was not only easy to make but also budget-friendly. With some creativity and simple DIY projects, you can create an adorable Queen of Hearts costume for your little one without breaking the bank.
